Express Raider Arcade

The game is a western-style with a singular reversal of roles: The protagonist is in fact a robber specialized in train assaults, while most of the enemies are law-abiding characters.

In the odd levels the game is configured as a horizontal scrolling beat ’em up; in the even ones instead as a fixed screen shooter, with scrolling only during the passage between one wagon and the next.Scrolling is left-to-right in some levels and right-to-left in others.

Joystick is used for movement, and two buttons: A to attack, B to dodge shoots and other dangers (only in even levels).

The levels are endless, the game loops infinitely but with ever increasing difficulty.

The odd-level script initially contemplates a hand-to-hand fight – next to the railroad – with the banker of the newly robbed bank; you have to eliminate it before the train leaves.
Once on the convoy, the outlaw will find himself forced to face men who oppose him (almost always individual clashes, similar to the one with the banker, even if some enemies do not attack unarmed; there are those who throw bottles, those who hold a rifle , etc).
Starting from the fifth level there are wagons on which he will also have to compete with some coyotes.
You always starts from the last wagon to get to the locomotive, where the rich booty is placed.

In the even levels the robber is armed with a pistol on the back of his horse, running a long the train.
Here too we start from the last wagon to get to the locomotive, always with the aim of seizing the booty hidden in it.
The robber, who it’ seen from behind this time, adjusts his shots via a crosshair that moves across the screen.
To complete each of the levels in question, it is necessary to shoot men facing the freight wagons and the windows of the other wagons: They will attack using firearms or throwing objects at the outlaw.

As already mentioned, the player can here use the B key to defend himself: if he presses it he will in fact cause you bend down, thus avoiding enemy attacks.
Every so often a woman appears on the convoy, an accomplice of the robber: she launch him a bag of money for bonus points.

At the beginning you have 2 lives, which can be increased upon reaching certain scores. A life is lost in the following ways:

– Taking too long to eliminate the banker (therefore the possibility of getting on the departing train will be precluded);

– Taking too long to pass from one car to another in the odd levels (the cars will in fact come off each other, thus causing the robber to fall off the convoy);

– Getting hit by shots in odd levels;

– Running out of time to eliminate all the armed men facing any wagon on even levels;

– Getting hit by the bullets of gunmen on even levels;

– Getting hit by a eagle (enemy that appears in even levels starting from the fourth);

– Getting hit by the arrows of a Native American (this enemy, which appears in odd levels starting from the fifth, cannot be eliminated);

– Accidentally killing the woman.

In the odd levels, the outlaw must avoid bumping his head against the railway signs and the walls of the tunnels (as the train is constantly in motion), otherwise it dies.
In both cases the player will overcome the obstacles by bringing the joystick down to make the robber lower or you can do a risky attack (like a flying kick) for 2000 points.
Signs and galleries are announced by a white exclamation mark that will appear briefly on the screen.
